$1.6 million in sales yesterday, up from $1.2 million on Monday. I'm willing to say at this point that the lottery is a success. I voted for it back in November for all the obvious reasons: more revenue flow in Arkansas rather than Missouri or Oklahoma or Tennessee, support the scholarship, don't deny people options for how to spend their money, blahblahblah. I'm not sure who I thought would be buying most of the tickets, but at least here in this college town, it's been 60%+ frat boys. It turns out there's something they like better than beer (while there's still nothing I like better than stereotypes.).
I've worked days when I couldn't get off the register for the entire shift, but those days were a long time ago, and it's a rude awakening going back to that kind of business. So, lottery? I love you, but I'll never play you, and I really hope the explosion of customers settles down soon.
