- What happened to Spiderman making dorky quips? They've been lacking in all three movies, and it's just sad.
- As well as his Spidey-sense.
- Alien symbiotes give you the ability to play jazz piano. Riiight.
- A ten minute scene in which evil!Peter buys a new suit? Lame.
- A ten minute scene in which evil!Peter dances with Gwen? Were the writers SURE there wasn't a better way to describe how eeeviiiillll! the symbiote is? I was pretty convinced when Peter lobbed a Pumpkin bomb at his ex-best friend.
- When Spiderman arrives at the final fight scene, he runs in front of a huge billowing flag. For some reason, too much patriotism makes me gag. Not sure why, maybe it's 'cause I got my fill of it in the first two movies.
- I suppose it's functional, but I really don't like how they rewrote Ben Parker's death and laid it at Sandman's feet. Let the poor guy rest in peace.
- Of course, since it WAS written that way, they missed a golden opportunity for Peter to tell Sandman the ol' "Great power, great responsibility" line after all the fighting was over.

I pretty much agree with Nay that there was lot of crowding in this movie. If the Venom had been delayed until the next movie (along with Carnage, oooh), surely there would have been less crack in this flick. Oh well. It's Spiderman, and overall I enjoyed the movie. Excellent CG effects: AAAAAA++++++++++++, as ebayers say.

Yesterday Renay and I went to see her mom and clear out her Dad's room. We ended up mowing part of her considerable lawn instead, and then it started raining like whoa before we could burn anything. Alas. And Jonathan's unit is going for three more months of training before being sent to Iraq, so...bleh. I wonder if they'll send Aaron as well.

maybe it was just me, but it looked like a piece of the symbiote flew out when the pumpkin bomb exploded. So keep your fingers crossed for Carnage sometime or another.

But yeah, there were a lot of problems with the movie, mostly from just trying to do too much. I think they could have really saved the new goblin stuff for later, have peter defeat sandman in the black suit and actually kill him, and then face Venom.

awww, but I like Sandman. He and Rhino would have been cool in a movie together.

I'd rather see Rhino working for Vulture. Parker could get the masterful line "It's like a zoo in here!" Oh, and throw the fucking Lizard in there for good measure.

Stan Lee said the Lizard is the next logical step for the movies. You may get that quote yet.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but didn't Conners become the Lizard by working on a cure for Parker? So Pete would have to reveal his secret to Conners beforehand, right? So there's a chance they could go with the Doppleganger Spidey vs the Lizard the next go round. That could be fun too.

I really liked the movie. I thought it was the best. I thought the way they handled Venom was incredible. I really don't agree with any of your criticisms... I loved all the scenes and touches you picked out as bad. The Patriotic thing was nice, and it makes sense having read the 9/11 Spiderman issue. It was mostly there just for the touch, the flare, the victory...

I thought the piano/dance was great, and I didn't think that "Happened to have had piano lessons as a youth" was more of a stretch than "gets bitten by a genetically engineered spider and gains powers akin to and then a meteorite containing an alien falls from the sky and bonds with him."

I loved the dark peter, it was done in an entirely not-cheesy-way. he wasn't evil, just self-involved. I thought they made that clear...

I felt the camera work and small touches to scenes were brilliant and beautiful, and it was framed very much like a comic.

I loved how they changed the sandman/Venom thing, and made both seem far more fascinating. Gone is Sandman the indiscriminate boring villain, yay they addressed the issue of him killing a man, yay Venon wasn't a stupid guy whose job was lost because Spidey broke a construction site... It all.. actually made sense.

Also i agree, i was surprised they skipped that line re: responsibility. I wonder why?

Okay, I'll fold on the piano issue if you'll agree his spidey sense should have picked up on Harry that first fight scene. :P

Oh yeah definitely, the lack of spidey sense throughout the movie was present, to me. he kept getting hit from behind.
