zachariahI went and saw Star Trek!
No, it didn't suck. The opening battle with Kirk's father was pretty epic, and everything from set design to the camera work to the special effects, etc. was all excellent.
Using time travel was interesting, it provided an exciting plot without the older Starfleet tech being the hindrance it could have been. I'm not sure I liked the exchanges with Older Spock. It was pretty much him saying "Here's what's happened so far, FYI, oh and here's what you need to do." and then Jim does it. Exposition plus predictive narration: kind of boring to watch.
Overall, I'll give it an A-. (Bones was excellent)
