A better control.
Thursday, 24 September 2009 13:27$%#@$! My La Peppina has never pulled quite right; the lever rockets back to it's default position if I let go, rather than gliding along. Espresso comes out where it's supposed to, and it tastes pretty decent (note: I drink bad coffee pretty regularly, so my taste buds may just be confused.), but I'm a DIY kinda guy, so last night I opened the machine up.
Somebody kick me.
I've got it back together now, minus one separator and one screw (I'm relatively sure they're not really necessary!) and my test shot didn't leak or explode the machine, so - knocking on some wood here - all's well that ends well. Shockingly enough, the lever is a bit slower/smoother when returning to default. Maybe I fixed it, maybe I'm experiencing confirmation bias first-hand.
Coffee enthusiasts of the world: do not try home repair of 30 or 40-year old machines unless you like fear, uncertainty, and doubt.
